Macmillan & Co., Ltd. (London, UK)
Series Dates: 1922-1942. Most titles seem to have a 1928 or 1929 date. Reprints extend to the early 1940s. There may have been an earlier Caravan Library (1922) published by Macmillan.
Size: 4.5″ x 7″
A series of about 35 titles, many from Macmillan’s back catalog. More than a few of the titles have travel themes (thus the name of the series). Slightly heavier than typical books this size indicating better paper and binding.
At least two dust jacket variations exist; given owner written dates in the two 1928 titles below, the red jacket seems to be earlier. The sticker over the price on the second jacket also suggests a later jacket (and a higher book price).
A list of titles from the jacket flaps and back cover:
A 1935 reprinting (1929 first printing in series) of Sir John Fortescue’s The Story of a Red Deer is among the later reprints in the series, and the titles on the jacket differ a bit from earlier jackets. The price has dropped from 3/6 on earlier jackets.
The binding is blue cloth, with fewer decorations than earlier books.
Frontispiece and title page. The date is indicated on the title page and on the copyright page (1935).
